Russell, cursed Monaco! Being lapped in Monte-Carlo costs him a “full-lap” championship
George Russell was the driver who completed the most laps in the 2025 Formula 1 season: 1,442 out of 1,444. The only laps missing were the two lost in Monte-Carlo due to being caught behind lapped traffic.
Russell completes 99.9% of all laps
George Russell was one of the standout performers of the 2025 World Championship. The British driver once again proved to be one of the most consistent on the grid, and it’s no coincidence that he was the only driver this year to win a Grand Prix without driving for either McLaren or Red Bull. Car #63 scored victories in Montreal and Singapore, taking advantage of the two races where the Mercedes was truly competitive.
It was an extraordinary season for Russell, and his consistency is evident in another remarkable statistic: not only did he finish every race, but he also completed 1,442 laps out of a possible 1,444. The only two laps he missed were in Monaco, where Russell and teammate Kimi Antonelli fell victim to an excessively passive team strategy that trapped them behind cars working together to exploit the two-stop requirement.
During the Monaco Grand Prix, Russell lost patience in the train of cars and deliberately cut the Nouvelle Chicane to overtake Alex Albon, earning a drive-through penalty from race control.
With this, the drivers who have completed a Formula 1 season “full laps” remain only four: Michael Schumacher (2002), Lewis Hamilton (2019), Max Verstappen (2023), and Oscar Piastri (2024).
While the record books will show he fell just 0.1% short of perfection, Russell’s 2025 performance confirms his status as a “marathon man” of modern F1. His ability to maintain such high levels of reliability and focus over 24 races provides a solid foundation for Mercedes as they transition into the lead-driver era following the departure of Lewis Hamilton. If the Silver Arrows can provide a car capable of fighting for the title in George 2026, Russell has already proven he has the stamina to see every race through to the checkered flag.
