Sauber is coming off a very positive period. The American rounds have consistently seen the Hinwil team finish in the Top-10. Nico Hulkenberg scored points in Austin and Brazil, while Gabriel Bortoleto managed a tenth-place finish in Mexico. Unfortunately, the Brazilian driver would have preferred a strong weekend in his home country, but incidents in both the Saturday Sprint and Sunday race prevented that.
Wheatley sets ambitious goals: “We need both cars in the top-10”
Despite a disastrous weekend not entirely his fault, Gabriel Bortoleto is eager to bounce back in Las Vegas, which marks the start of the final triple-header and the season finale. “I can’t wait to be back on track. Brazil was particularly tough, but I learned a lot. I also had time to rest, and now I just want to move forward. Las Vegas is a new circuit for me. I’m curious to see how the car will perform at night, with lower temperatures,” he said.
“It will be a different challenge from the others. I’ll need to learn the track as quickly as possible and be ready to capitalize on even the smallest opportunities. I want a solid weekend, like the ones we’ve had recently. We aim to start the triple-header on the right foot,” Gabriel Bortoleto added, according to the official Sauber press release.
On the other side of the garage, Nico Hulkenberg is highly motivated and ready to give his all: “Las Vegas is a unique stop on the calendar. The city, the night races, and the energy of the Strip make the weekend very exciting. The low temperatures make the track challenging. We’ve recently scored a series of points finishes, and we want to continue that momentum. The midfield battle is tight, and every point counts.”
The entire team is enthusiastic about their recent work, and Team Principal Jonathan Wheatley is determined to raise the bar even higher: “We have shown good consistency in the last races. We’re back in the points, and our goal is to maintain this form. The battle for the Constructors’ Championship is becoming increasingly intense. We’ve managed to place one car in the top-10 in the last three races, but now we need to improve and aim for both cars to finish in the top ten.”
“Las Vegas has delivered exciting races in recent years and offers many opportunities. We need to stay focused and be prepared. Congratulations also to our driver Emma Felbermayr, who is completing her rookie season. She has grown a lot during this period, and we are all proud to support her in this journey,” Wheatley concluded, according to the official Sauber press release.
Looking at the Constructors’ standings, Sauber is currently ninth with 62 points, while Racing Bulls sit in sixth with 82 points. Four teams—Racing Bulls, Aston Martin, Haas, and Sauber—are separated by only 20 points, making the fight for midfield supremacy extremely tight.
