Franco Colapinto, comeback stops at 14th
After the incidents in Brazil and the terrible crash in Las Vegas qualifying, Franco Colapinto didn’t want to take any risks. Perhaps also advised by the team, the Argentine (who started from the pit lane) focused solely on bringing the car to the finish line, ending up in an anonymous 14th place.
Franco Colapinto’s comments
“It was a difficult weekend. Yesterday in qualifying I felt really good and more and more comfortable, but then I started the lap too close to Pierre Gasly, I took the final corner in dirty air and unfortunately caused a lot of damage,” said the Argentine. “Today we managed to make progress and, overall, we did a good job. It was difficult managing the tires because there was a lot of graining. I have to thank the guys in the team, they’ve been heroic in the last two races. Yesterday they had to rebuild the entire car to let me race, it’s incredible how good they are. They’re the best in the business. We know that next week in Qatar there will be more opportunities, and we’ll bounce back.” – he pointed out at the end of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Alex Albon’s comments
Things went worse for Alexander Albon, who had to retire after 25 laps due to an engine issue yet to be identified: a problem that won’t be as costly as an accident, but still represents another setback in Williams’ already troubled season due to crashes into the barriers.
“Today we had a good car, and we could have scored good points, it’s frustrating to retire with a suspected power unit problem. We need to figure out if it’s a similar issue to what we had in FP2 or the same issue we had in Singapore,” commented the Anglo-Thai driver. “For me, these things happen, but I wanted a good result for the team to try to repay everyone for the hard work they’ve done in these difficult times. It wasn’t meant to be, we’ll focus on the last two races of the season and hope we can turn things around.”
