The Franco Colapinto mania has taken off
In soccer terms, a “caretaker” is usually an experienced coach who takes over a team temporarily, knowing they’ll make way for someone else at season’s end. Franco Colapinto might not be experienced, but he knew his role as a Williams driver would end in Abu Dhabi, as the Grove team has already signed Carlos Sainz for the 2025 F1 campaign. Yet the “caretaker” is thinking big: with a series of exceptional performances for a rookie, Logan Sargeant’s replacement has made a strong case to stay in Formula 1.
At least two teams are eyeing him for next season: the first is the only one definitely needing a driver (Kick Sauber), and the second is Red Bull, which, if Liam Lawson is promoted to the main team, could consider offering a spot to the Argentine from Williams.

One thing is certain: Franco Colapinto is playing his cards right and wants to build on his five points from four races to secure his place in Formula 1. But the road remains challenging, especially as Williams is unlikely to let him go to a direct competitor. “I have no idea what’s possible and what’s not; maybe you should ask James (Vowles),” he said. “My dream is to stay in Formula 1, and that’s why I’m working hard. I’m going race by race, and this year I had an extraordinary opportunity that I seized fully,” he said on the podcast *The Fast and the Curious*.
“I came to stay, that’s the reality,” he added. “I’m giving my all to show everyone what I’m capable of and that I deserve a place in Formula 1. Right now, things are going well, and everything’s moving in the right direction, but of course, I think getting a seat for next year is very difficult. I’m completely focused on this year and what we need to do, and then we’ll see about 2025.” – the Williams driver concluded.
