Max Verstappen realistic about 36-point deficit but remains confident | Brazil GP. Max Verstappen acknowledges a 36-point gap in the championship but remains determined to fight .

Max Verstappen, Red Bull RB21, 2025 F1

“We will just try to do everything possible until the end,” begins Max Verstappen during the usual media day in Brazil. The Dutch driver has significantly reduced his gap with the McLaren duo, now only one point apart, with Lando Norris having reclaimed the championship lead. Max Verstappen, while aware of the significant gain, is realistic about how the deficit remains considerable for the remaining Grand Prix. The great work of the team and the undisputed talent of the world #1 must be praised for what we have witnessed in recent races. On this matter, the Dutchman continued his interview as follows:

“It’s 36 points, still a considerable gap. I think in the last rounds we’ve done a great job as a team, but obviously if we want to close the gap further, we need to be consistently at the front now, and I think this will be a big challenge, but we’ll see. I’m just excited to be here and I hope it will be a good weekend for us.”

Interlagos: a land of magical memories
Regarding his chances of victory this weekend, the Dutchman commented: “I know that if the car is good and fast enough to win, we will do it. Otherwise, I think at some point it’s natural to no longer be in contention. We’ll see how it goes.” Interlagos was the scene of one of the #1’s most spectacular wins last season, where the Red Bull driver climbed from seventeenth to first place. This weekend, as usual, the weather can always bring surprises: “First of all, [we will wait] to see how the weather develops in the next few days. I think the last races have been generally very good, but obviously if we want to win more, we need to be more competitive, so we’ll see what happens.”

With the Sprint Race coming up, the Dutchman could once again play his cards well: if there are twists in the McLaren zone, or unexpected challenges, Max Verstappen could significantly reduce his gap from the championship lead: “In the rain, it’s always very risky. It can work in your favor, it can work against you,” he explained, praising McLaren’s strength in these conditions – “Even this season, I think McLaren has been very good in the wet at controlling overheating, for example with intermediate tires, so it’s not guaranteed that if it rains suddenly we will be the ones to beat. We’ll give everything we have,” he concluded. Now, we just have to wait and see what will happen over the course of the Brazilian GP weekend.
