VIDEO: a Red Bull F1 car stuck in South African traffic. As the Milton Keynes team prepares for an exhibition in the heart of Johannesburg, featuring the 2011 champion RB7, a very curious video emerges on social media: the single-seater, which will be driven on this occasion by David Coulthard, is moving at a snail’s pace on the back of a truck, stuck in the city’s traffic.
Formula 1 is increasingly focusing on Africa. The Circus is now very close to organizing a Grand Prix on the continent, having already reached nearly every other corner of the globe. Stefano Domenicali is personally working to assess the feasibility of the proposals on the table, and a breakthrough could come in the coming months.
At the top of the list of African countries with the highest chances of joining the exclusive circle of Grand Prix organizers is Rwanda, but it is not the only candidate. Some time ago, we reported how Giancarlo Fisichella revealed to *Mirror Sport* and *Betway* that he is involved in the Formula 1 project in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
In the meantime, however, Johannesburg, South Africa, will get a taste of Formula 1. The country has been a major player in the Circus in the past: the South African Grand Prix, held in multiple editions between 1934 and 1993, is generally appreciated by the public, who would like to see its return. The last winner was Alain Prost, driving for Williams.
On October 6, the “Red Bull Showrun Joburg” will take place in the city, where David Coulthard will take the wheel of the Red Bull RB7 and race through the city’s main streets. Certainly, besides the traffic, Milton Keynes will want to avoid a repeat of what happened in Taiwan, where the RB8 driven by Yuki Tsunoda ended its run in flames!
