F1 | Alpine considering Perez after Colapinto?
Flavio Briatore is reportedly giving serious consideration to potential alternatives to Franco Colapinto, whose performances so far have failed to meet the expectations set when he joined the team. The Argentine driver, on loan from Williams at the request of the veteran Italian businessman, replaced long-time reserve driver Jack Doohan — a decision that came at a significant cost to Alpine. However, Colapinto has yet to deliver convincing results, triggering speculation that a change of driver could take place as early as the 2026 Formula 1 season, or possibly even before the current campaign concludes.
According to Ralf Bach of Sport1, Flavio Briatore continues to view Franco Colapinto’s performances with a critical eye. Bach pointed out that anyone familiar with Briatore’s approach to team management knows that he often forms alternative plans for the future well in advance. He stated that it is no secret Briatore has already held discussions with Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas.
However, Bach also suggested that Mexican driver Sergio Perez should not be underestimated as a contender for the seat. Perez, a proven race winner with extensive Formula 1 experience, still commands substantial commercial backing thanks to Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, who is reportedly eager to bring Perez back into a competitive F1 seat. Flavio Briatore is believed to see this as a potentially advantageous situation for all parties involved, and Bach did not rule out the possibility that such a move could indeed materialise.
