Fernando Alonso optimistic about Aston Martin after flawless Hungarian Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso expresses optimism after a strong Hungarian Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso, 2024 F1

Aston Martin and two-time Formula 1 World Champion Fernando Alonso delivered a surprising and encouraging performance during the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix. The Spanish driver shared his impressions in the post-race interviews, highlighting a potentially turning point for the Silverstone-based team in what has been a difficult season so far.

After a challenging first part of the 2025 Formula 1 championship, it now appears that Aston Martin may have found a new direction. Fernando Alonso, who struggled significantly in the early races — taking as many as eight Grands Prix to break into the top 10 and secure his first points of the season — seems to have finally rediscovered a strong connection with the AMR25 car.

The Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring circuit marked a notable improvement for the team, with Fernando Alonso finishing in an impressive fifth place and his teammate Lance Stroll securing seventh position. This double-points finish has raised hopes for a more competitive second half of the season.

During the post-race interview, Fernando Alonso, the most experienced driver on the grid and who recently turned 44 years old, expressed renewed optimism for the remainder of the season. At the same time, he was keen to emphasize that there is still plenty of hard work ahead for the team in order to avoid falling back to the lower end of the field.

Fernando Alonso’s satisfaction after Hungary

“I am definitely very happy,” Fernando Alonso began, speaking to the media following the race. “Finishing in fifth place is my best result of the year so far. It is also the best result of the season for the team as a whole. We managed to score 16 points just before the summer break, and that gives us a great feeling going forward. We were clearly much faster than Sauber.”

The two-time World Champion continued by pointing out how well everything came together over the weekend in Budapest: “This was one of those race weekends where everything seems to fall into place. From the very first free practice sessions, to a solid qualifying session yesterday, and then a strong race today — tyre management was excellent, and everything was executed perfectly. We really could not have asked for more.”

When asked how he would approach the upcoming summer break, Fernando Alonso responded with a more positive outlook than in recent races: “I will go into the summer break feeling much more optimistic about the second half of the season. We really needed this kind of result. Just last week in Spa-Francorchamps, we were right at the back of the grid, and now we’ve come away with P5 and P7. It’s crucial that we understand what has changed between the two races — what we did differently with the car — and try to apply those learnings to the upcoming Grands Prix.”

Fernando Alonso’s remarks underline a renewed sense of belief within the Aston Martin camp. After several disappointing rounds earlier in the year, this result at the Hungarian Grand Prix could represent a turning point. As Formula 1 heads into the summer break, the focus for Aston Martin will now be on consolidating this progress and aiming to consistently challenge for points — and possibly even podiums — in the remaining races of the 2025 season.
