F1 | Alonso: “I don’t want to stop before my son sees me race”
Fernando Alonso is looking at the future through a different lens. The two-time Formula 1 world champion, who recently became a father for the first time with partner Melissa Jiménez, has admitted that this new chapter in his life could play a major role in deciding his future in Formula 1.
The Aston Martin driver, whose current contract expires at the end of the season, explained that becoming a father has significantly changed the way he views priorities and long-term decisions.
“Becoming a father changes you inside and makes you reflect on many priorities,” Alonso said.
However, the Spanish driver does not appear ready to walk away from the Formula 1 paddock just yet. In fact, one of the reasons he is considering continuing is precisely the opportunity to share this part of his life with his son.
“I would love for him to be able to remember me racing, experience the paddock, and maybe even climb into my car one day,” Alonso added.
Fernando Alonso also explained that a final decision regarding his Formula 1 future will likely come during the summer, once he has had time to weigh both family considerations and Aston Martin’s long-term technical ambitions.
“Before making a decision, I need to speak with the people closest to me and understand what the project for the future will be,” he said.
And even if his Formula 1 chapter eventually comes to an end, Fernando Alonso made it clear that retirement from top-level racing would not necessarily mean stepping away from motorsport altogether.
“If I stop here, I will still continue racing somewhere else,” the Spaniard said.
In summary, Fernando Alonso’s heartwarming reflections reveal a powerful new source of motivation for the racing icon, proving that while fatherhood naturally shifts a driver’s priorities, the desire to pass down a living motorsport legacy might just keep him on the grid for years to come.
