Mike Krack has openly admitted that there is “a lot of frustration” inside the Aston Martin Formula 1 team following a deeply challenging start to the 2026 season.
The Silverstone-based outfit continues to battle a combination of chassis limitations and power unit-related issues, leaving the AMR26 far from where the team expected to be at this stage of the campaign.
There was at least one encouraging sign in Miami, where both Aston Martin cars managed to reach the chequered flag for the first time this season, thanks in part to progress made by Honda on the reliability front.
Even so, the broader competitive picture remains difficult.
The AMR26 is still well outside the points fight and continues to occupy positions near the back of the Formula 1 grid, a situation that naturally brings disappointment inside a team with far bigger ambitions.
Mike Krack acknowledged that frustration within the organisation is inevitable, while also stressing the importance of maintaining perspective during a difficult development phase.
“We are all racers, and nobody wants to be fighting at the back. Every year, you want to improve, but you also have to accept reality when problems emerge. Frustration is a human reaction.”
The Aston Martin team principal also praised the attitude shown by Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, highlighting the professionalism both drivers have demonstrated despite the disappointing start to the year.
“Fernando and Lance are the most exposed. Drivers with their level of experience do not belong at the back of the grid, but they are handling the situation like true professionals.”
With Aston Martin investing heavily in its long-term Formula 1 future, including major infrastructure expansion and technical restructuring, the current struggles represent an uncomfortable but potentially temporary phase in the team’s wider rebuild.
