Zak Brown has stepped in to defend Oscar Piastri and the McLaren team, aiming to reassure fans that the atmosphere within the squad remains strong despite circulating rumors of tension. Speculation has increased as the team leads the Constructors’ Championship, with its two drivers occupying the top positions in the Drivers’ standings.
With Oscar Piastri currently leading the championship with a nine-point advantage over teammate Lando Norris, the spotlight on the team grows, and rumors inevitably intensify. However, both Oscar Piastri and Brown have emphasized the collaborative environment that defines the McLaren garage.
“No friction, just collaboration”
Speaking to Sky Sports, Oscar Piastri explained: “We have always worked very well together since I joined the team. Both of us want the same things from the car, and that is essential. We’ve seen in the past how tension can destroy entire teams, but between us there is mutual respect and collaboration.”
The young Australian also reflected on how the start of the season, despite some challenges, has reinforced his confidence: “It’s not a huge advantage yet to be completely sure of myself, but I believed from the first Grand Prix that I can be champion this year. That belief is still there.”
Zak Brown praises his drivers
On the other side, McLaren CEO Zak Brown spoke highly of Piastri: “Oscar is a great guy, fast, straightforward, and doesn’t complicate things. It’s a pleasure to race with him. I wouldn’t trade our driver line-up for any other team.”
Brown also addressed the delicate issue of an internal title fight between McLaren’s two drivers: “We know that in the end, one of them will be disappointed, but we don’t see rising tension. In fact, we enjoy watching them battle. It’s an epic challenge that we’ll experience until the very end.”
McLaren, therefore, rejects the notion of internal crisis, but with two drivers in direct championship contention, the question remains how long team harmony and balance can withstand the pressure of the fight for glory.
