Carlos Sainz has analyzed his 2025 Formula 1 season start, offering insight into what has gone wrong for him in the first 14 races with Williams. The Spanish driver has scored just 16 points so far, a tally that has left him visibly frustrated, while his teammate, Alex Albon, has collected 54 points and currently sits eighth in the Drivers’ Championship standings.
Sainz on his Williams debut season
When asked to summarize his season up to the summer break, Sainz did not hide his disappointment with his initial experience at Williams. “It’s a difficult question to answer as if it were a report card, but I would say there have been highs and lows,” said the former Ferrari driver. “Extremely frustrating, because I feel I had a lot of pace in the car. I adapted to the team quickly. From the very beginning, I felt fast in the car, but it was very difficult to put together two consistent results throughout the first half of the season.”
Lost points and challenges
Sainz admitted that several factors contributed to the loss of points during the opening half of the season. “When it wasn’t a reliability issue, there was contact with a rival,” he explained. “And when it wasn’t an incident with another driver, I wasn’t even able to start the Austrian Grand Prix.”
He continued: “Then there were times when traffic in Q1 or some strategic mistakes we made throughout the year cost us dearly. So, in terms of results, things never really went our way. But amid these ups and downs, the pace is there. There is proof that we are heading in the right direction. It’s just that when you don’t have a result to show for it, that’s when frustration sets in.”
Looking ahead
Despite the disappointing start, Carlos Sainz emphasizes that the underlying performance of the car is promising. Williams and its drivers are continuing to work on optimizing race strategy and qualifying performance, aiming to convert speed into consistent points finishes. The second half of the season represents an opportunity for both the former Ferrari driver and the team to recover and make a stronger impression in the Constructors’ Championship while closing the gap to the midfield rivals.
