The title fight and midfield competitiveness
Chris Medland: “Is it boring to talk about the Drivers’ Championship battle? Especially if Verstappen can re-enter the three-way fight as we approach the last two races. I’m definitely excited to see if he can do it in Las Vegas after his chase in Interlagos. Beyond that, the midfield battle has been brilliant this year. The driver in 19th place in the standings has 19 points and a top-six finish. It’s been very competitive, and I’m looking forward to more great duels as the teams finalize their positions.”
McLaren strategies and intra-team rivalries
David Tremayne: “The title fight, naturally. This will take priority over everything else: how strong Max will be (I suspect very), whether Lando will hold or yield, and how Oscar will regain his form in a car that seems increasingly less suited to his driving style. How, if necessary, the McLaren drivers might help each other at the last moment. And how McLaren will manage the balance between letting them fight and securing their first Drivers’ Championship since 2008, Lewis Hamilton’s year. But also the internal battle at Mercedes, which has recently reignited. A strong performance from them in Las Vegas could also influence the title outcome. The same applies to the Red Bulls regarding their internal team competition.”
Alex Jacques: “Both championship stories are excellent – we could have either a new champion from one of the McLaren drivers or the greatest comeback in F1 history. Beyond that, I’m excited to see more outstanding performances from the rookies. Ollie Bearman and Isack Hadjar have done very well this year, and no one expected Gabriel Bortoleto to beat Nico Hulkenberg in a direct Qualifying comparison. They’ve been really fun to watch.”
