The driver himself, speaking on the F1 podcast Beyond the Grid, wanted to break down everything that has happened since Monza. During this period, Oscar Piastri lost 58 points to Norris, putting his championship hopes at serious risk.
It all started at the Monza GP
The Australian began by commenting on the Italian weekend: “At Monza, it was not a particularly positive weekend based on my performance, and then of course there was what happened with the swap.” This incident appears to have triggered the negative loop that Oscar Piastri entered. But the following weekend did not improve matters. In Baku, he was involved in two incidents—one in qualifying and another in the race after just six corners.
“Many things happened that weekend. In FP1 we had an engine problem, then I wasn’t driving very well, and on top of that, we were using C6 tires, which are notoriously difficult to manage. There were many small issues that added up.” While Friday had gone poorly, Saturday and Sunday proved even worse: “On Saturday, I felt my pace was good, but I was just overdoing it a bit. It was the worst race weekend I’ve ever had.”
Despite this, Oscar believes the experience was also valuable for him. “It was probably the most useful weekend in some ways. You also have to learn from weekends like these.” He concluded with words that seem to come directly from the heart of the Australian: “Nothing will ever be perfect. Sometimes things go well and sometimes they don’t. That’s just how it is, it happens to everyone.”
