Stefano Domenicali has reviewed the recently concluded Formula 1 season and pointed to Lando Norris as both a technical and personal benchmark for the sport’s new cycle. At the end of the 2025 F1 World Championship, the Formula 1 President and CEO shared his thoughts on the season and the future of the sport, delivering a special message to Norris.
The 2025 campaign was one of the most hard-fought championships in recent years, with three drivers remaining in contention for the title until the very last race. The final outcome was the result of a technical and organisational process involving the FIA, Formula 1, the teams and the drivers, which raised the overall level of competitiveness to a remarkable standard.
Stefano Domenicali stressed that the championship structure successfully absorbed the pressure of a season marked by constant leadership changes and a technical balance that once again placed the spotlight on the role of the teams and their strategic decisions.
“A deserved title”: Stefano Domenicali’s words on the season
After the final race, Stefano Domenicali reiterated the significance of Lando Norris’s achievement and offered a clear summary of the World Championship. “Congratulations to Lando. He is a great personality for Formula 1,” he stated. “His attitude and his professionalism represent a benchmark for the new generations.”
Stefano Domenicali then analysed how the championship unfolded: “Before the summer, Oscar Piastri was leading, then Lando Norris experienced consistent growth and Max Verstappen came back incredibly strong in the final phase. This balance made the season unpredictable.”
He also highlighted the level shown by the other title contenders: “Today I saw two drivers like Oscar and Max with a mature attitude. They both produced excellent seasons, and that is why the title was decided in the final race.”
Finally, Stefano Domenicali acknowledged the work carried out by McLaren under Andrea Stella and Zak Brown: “The team managed a very difficult journey. Three years ago, they were at the back of the grid, and today they have won both the Drivers’ and the Constructors’ World Championships. Brown identified the right people and provided technical stability.”
Lando Norris’s title now opens a new era for Formula 1, with McLaren returning to historic levels of performance and a competitive balance between teams and drivers that promises yet another high-intensity season.
