F2 | Verstappen jokes about the championship fight: “Maybe yes, maybe no… we’ll see”
Max Verstappen laughs when thinking about his chances in the drivers’ championship. The four-time world champion has playfully provoked McLaren regarding the title fight as the season approaches its climax.
This weekend, Formula 1 heads to Singapore for one of the most spectacular rounds of the year. For Verstappen, it is a key opportunity to close the gap with McLaren in the drivers’ standings, and he seems to be taking it in stride with humor.
Verstappen jokes about the championship—teasing McLaren?
ESPN recently shared a brief interview with Max Verstappen on social media. When asked about his chances of winning the drivers’ championship, the Dutchman responded with a clear touch of irony and even broke into a light laugh.
“It will be 50/50,” he said with a noticeable smile, “It’s either yes or no. It’s simple math: maybe yes, maybe no… we’ll see!”
His laughter does not indicate that Verstappen is taking the championship lightly. On the contrary, it seems to be a deliberate provocation, possibly directed at McLaren.
Verstappen knows that securing the championship will require near-perfect performances in the remaining races. With the top spot currently 69 points ahead, he will also need mistakes from others, particularly from Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Singapore represents an important test for Max Verstappen to evaluate his championship chances, especially given McLaren’s signs of struggle in recent races.
