Red Bull’s Austin GP victory is under review as Max Verstappen’s team faces an FIA investigation
The result of the United States Grand Prix is under review after Red Bull’s sporting director was summoned by the race stewards for a potential breach of Article 12.2.1.i of the FIA International Sporting Code while the RB21 was on the starting grid. It appears that one of Max Verstappen’s mechanics may have lingered on the car.
The celebrations following Max Verstappen’s victory were interrupted when Red Bull’s sporting director was called to the race control at the request of the panel of stewards. The result of the United States GP could be subject to review due to a potential irregularity committed while the RB21 was positioned on the grid in pole position.
At present, it is known that Red Bull may have failed to comply with Article 12.2.1.i of the FIA International Sporting Code, which regulates the departure of team personnel from the pit lane. It is highly likely that a mechanic from the team, overseen by Laurent Mekies, did not leave the car within the prescribed time.
The start-line stewards in Austin reported the issue to the race control, which then informed the panel of stewards, leading to the call for a Red Bull representative. The prevailing sentiment is that Verstappen’s victory is not at risk, although a fine for the Milton Keynes team seems possible. We will have to wait and see.
