From the grid in Austin, Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies spoke to Sky Sport F1, offering his analysis of the team’s current form and the factors that could affect the outcome of the 2025 United States Grand Prix. All eyes are on Max Verstappen, who delivered an impeccable qualifying performance on Saturday and now aims to turn his pole position into victory.
“Max is fired up, and the Sprint confirmed that we’re in great shape,” Laurent Mekies explained. “He used only one set of tyres to secure pole position, which shows how well the car is responding even with minimal preparation. That said, today’s race could be completely different: the wind has shifted by 180 degrees, and that changes the car’s behaviour quite a bit. We weren’t perfect in the early phase of the Sprint, but we’ll see if the adjustments we made will help us improve.”
The French manager’s words perfectly capture the mood inside the Red Bull garage — a mix of confidence in the team’s performance and cautious respect for the unpredictable conditions at the Circuit of the Americas. The Austin track is notoriously sensitive to wind changes, especially in the first sector, where sudden gusts can disrupt aerodynamic balance through turns 6 and 7, making precision driving essential for maintaining grip and speed.
