Scare for Yuki Tsunoda: Crash at the Final Corner
During the qualifying simulation, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri led the way, with Max Verstappen close behind in third place. The two McLaren drivers confirmed the excellent balance of their car on the Saudi street circuit, while Charles Leclerc, initially in the lead, slipped back, overtaken by rivals at the end of the session.
Carlos Sainz also delivered a strong performance, securing a solid fifth place with his Williams and showing competitive pace both on single-lap runs and during the few long runs completed before the red flag.
The most dramatic moment of the day came in the final minutes of the session, when Yuki Tsunoda lost control of his car coming out of the last corner and slammed into the barriers. Fortunately, the Japanese driver was uninjured, but his car sustained significant damage that could complicate the team’s work ahead of Saturday.
The driver admitted his mistake, expressing regret for cutting short a session that had shown promising signs up to that point.
At the end of the day, Lewis Hamilton came under investigation by the FIA for an alleged impeding incident involving Alexander Albon. The British Ferrari driver was summoned along with team representatives at 9:15 p.m. local time to discuss the matter.
