F1 Qatar GP: Carlos Sainz opens up on challenges and surprises of his first Williams year. Carlos Sainz reflects on his first season with Williams.

Carlos Sainz, 2025 F1

In the second part of the Qatar Grand Prix press conference, Carlos Sainz returned in front of the media. The Spanish driver is coming off an excellent weekend in Las Vegas, where he finished in fifth place. The session opened with questions about that result. Carlos Sainz said: “I’m quite satisfied with the race in Las Vegas. I think we did everything possible to score the maximum points. I was the first midfield car to finish the race among the top teams. It was nice.”

Regarding expectations for the upcoming weekend in Qatar, the Spaniard did not hide his concerns. He explained: “I fear this will be one of the most difficult weekends of the season, but it’s a good opportunity to understand why our car is weak in this type of corner.” – the former Ferrari driver pointed out.

Thoughts on his first season with Williams

“Expectations are always high, but I tried to keep them under control knowing this would be a difficult year for me, going from a top team to the midfield,” Carlos Sainz explained. “But if, when I signed the contract, you had told me there would be a podium and a fifth place in the constructors’ standings, just a couple of tenths from the front-running teams, I think I would have signed even faster,” he concluded.
