Among the main voices in the Qatar Grand Prix press conference was also Kimi Antonelli. The Mercedes driver shared several reflections, speaking about everything from his fierce comeback in Las Vegas to the clear improvement in his performance over the course of the season. When discussing that first point, the Italian driver explained how much his tyre management has evolved throughout the championship:
“I think that over the course of a season you learn many things. If I have to be honest, the C3 compound is the one I prefer the most. In such a long championship you start to understand better how to manage the compounds and your overall performance. In Las Vegas I managed to have my best weekend in this regard, and the support from the team was fundamental.”
A special kind of help
Antonelli also opened up about the most difficult phase of his season, admitting that the team played a decisive role in his “rebirth”. He said: “Since we introduced the new suspension, I had difficulties. George managed to adapt, but I struggled a lot. I fell into a negative spiral where things kept getting worse and the frustration took over. The darkest moment was in Spa, where I doubted myself, seeing that the results weren’t coming and wondering whether I was good enough.”
The team played a crucial role in helping him recover: “After Monza I had an important meeting with the team, I did a mental reset and also changed my approach,” he concluded.
