F1 | Kimi Antonelli sets his sights on the 2026 Formula 1 world championship. Kimi Antonelli says he is ready to fight for the 2026 Formula 1 world championship.

Kimi Antonelli, 2024

Kimi Antonelli is ready for 2026, with a clear commitment to making significant changes in order to fight for the world championship. The young Italian driver is preparing himself for a genuine title challenge in the 2026 Formula 1 season.

Even during the Barcelona tests, Kimi Antonelli showed himself to be in good form, completing lap after lap and setting some interesting lap times. Entering his second season in Formula 1, his ambitions are already higher than they were last year, reflecting both growing confidence and greater expectations.

Kimi will be able to rely on the valuable experience gained in 2025, a season in which he showed some lows but also very promising highs. Now, in 2026, he wants to confirm that progress, including in the internal battle with his teammate George Russell. In the final races of last season, Kimi Antonelli appeared genuinely on George Russell’s level, and his intention now is to fight alongside him for the 2026 Formula 1 world championship.

The ambitions of Antonelli

Based on the rumours suggesting that Mercedes could be the team to beat, even if the situation may still change, Antonelli spoke openly about his ambitions for 2026. Kimi sees Russell as his main rival. “The big goal will be to win and to fight for the world championship. That is my objective, and it is also about being one of the best, so that is what I want. George is very strong and is definitely ready to fight for the championship. He is one of the reference points on the grid. It will therefore be a lot of fun to compete with him,” Antonelli said.

Kimi also spoke about the approach he will take in his second season in Formula 1. “This year I will have a different approach. I feel that I still have a lot to learn, so from an experience point of view there will be a different mindset. But from a driving point of view I think we are all on the same level, so it will be a great opportunity,” he explained.

He also added what he will carry over from his rookie season. “I will keep the things that helped me, but on the other hand I will change some approaches to help myself, to prepare better and also to feel better during the races,” Kimi Antonelli concluded.

As the lights prepare to go out for the 2026 season, the narrative surrounding the Mercedes garage is shifting from mentorship to a full-blown competitive rivalry. Antonelli’s Kimi blend of youthful speed and a more mature, refined preparation could prove to be a formidable combination against the established order. Whether he can convert his Barcelona promise into a sustained title challenge remains to be seen, but the confidence radiating from the Italian suggests he is more than ready for the spotlight.
