The 2025 Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone concluded with an emotional home victory for McLaren driver Lando Norris, ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri, while Nico Hülkenberg made headlines by securing his first-ever podium finish—and Sauber’s first in 12 years. With unpredictable weather, dramatic strategy calls, and several surprising incidents, Silverstone delivered one of the most eventful races of the season. Here are the full driver ratings from an unforgettable Grand Prix weekend.
Max Verstappen – Rollercoaster Ride: 6.5/10
Max Verstappen started the race strongly but could not maintain his early momentum. A mid-race spin compromised his strategy and rhythm. Although he managed to recover to a fifth-place finish—better than expected after the spin—losing a potential pole position never feels like a satisfying race for the reigning world champion.
Lando Norris – A Touch of Luck: 8/10
Lando Norris claimed his maiden home victory at Silverstone, but the result was not the product of overwhelming dominance. Instead, it was the result of seizing opportunities and benefitting from Oscar Piastri’s time penalty. Still, Norris drove a smart race in difficult conditions and was in the right place at the right time.
Oscar Piastri – Costly Braking: 7/10
Oscar Piastri was on course for victory until he braked abruptly under the Safety Car, resulting in a 10-second penalty. That decision ultimately cost him the win. Before that, he had driven a clean and competitive race. After Silverstone, his lead over teammate Norris in the championship is down to just 8 points.
Charles Leclerc – Disastrous Choices: 4/10
It was a weekend to forget for Charles Leclerc. Starting only sixth on the grid, he struggled with poor strategy decisions and several mistakes, including off-track excursions. He finished 14th—second to last among classified drivers. Arguably one of his worst performances of the season so far.
Lewis Hamilton – Damage Control: 7.5/10
Unlike Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton delivered a solid performance at his home Grand Prix. While he narrowly missed out on the podium, finishing fourth, he outperformed his teammate and proved once again that he thrives at Silverstone. A commendable effort despite challenging circumstances.
George Russell – Strategy Failure: 5.5/10
Mercedes was never the favorite for victory, but George Russell’s race was poorly managed. In a Grand Prix where every strategy call mattered, the decisions made for Russell cost him track position and exposed the flaws in execution on a difficult day.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli – Rookie Misfortune: 5/10
The choice to start on Hard tyres hampered Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s performance from the beginning. His race was ultimately ended after a collision with Isack Hadjar. A frustrating early exit for the young Italian, whose luck was absent this weekend.
Alexander Albon – Quietly Effective: 7/10
Albon drove a calm, consistent race and brought home four valuable points with an eighth-place finish. In a chaotic race, he avoided trouble and executed well.
Carlos Sainz – Underwhelming: 5.5/10
Carlos Sainz fell out of the points and finished 12th. A subdued race for the Spaniard, who failed to make an impression and struggled to keep pace with the front-runners.
Liam Lawson – Race Victim: 5/10
Liam Lawson went off-track after being involved in contact, triggering a yellow flag. A frustrating end in difficult conditions, though not entirely his fault.
Isack Hadjar – Costly Collision: 2.5/10
Isack Hadjar collided with Antonelli during heavy rain conditions, causing a red flag on lap 19. The crash also forced the French rookie out of the race. A serious mistake in treacherous weather.
Pierre Gasly – Defensive Masterclass: 8/10
Pierre Gasly drove an excellent race, finishing sixth. His tire management, defensive driving, and racecraft in mixed conditions were impressive. He held his ground throughout and left Silverstone with a strong result.
Franco Colapinto – Alpine Under Pressure: 2/10
Another disastrous weekend for the rookie, ending with a DNF. While Pierre Gasly fights among the top teams, Franco Colapinto continues to struggle. Rumors are intensifying that Jack Doohan may replace him at Alpine for the Belgian Grand Prix.
Esteban Ocon – Unremarkable: 5/10
Esteban Ocon made up one position from his starting slot but finished 13th. Not the worst performance, but certainly forgettable in the context of a dramatic Grand Prix.
Oliver Bearman – Solid Recovery: 7/10
Despite a 10-place grid penalty and a spin on lap 22, Oliver Bearman recovered well to finish 11th. Just outside the points, but a strong drive considering the setbacks.
Fernando Alonso – Tactical Gamble: 6.5/10
Fernando Alonso once again proved to be a strategic thinker, switching to slicks early as the track dried. While he finished ninth—two places lower than where he started—his proactive decision-making reminded everyone of his experience and instinct.
Lance Stroll – Big Comeback: 8/10
Starting from 17th on the grid, Lance Stroll surged through the field to finish seventh. A brilliant recovery drive, made possible by smart strategy and precise execution.
Nico Hülkenberg – First Podium at Last: 10/10
After 239 race starts, Nico Hülkenberg finally claimed his first-ever Formula 1 podium. A flawless performance, perfect strategy, and a display of race intelligence made him one of the stars of the weekend. His Driver of the Day award was well deserved.
Gabriel Bortoleto – Bitter Race: 2/10
Rookie Gabriel Bortoleto went off into the gravel and recorded another disappointing result. Conditions were tough, but comparisons with fellow rookie Hülkenberg’s podium make this DNF especially hard to digest.
The driver ratings from Silverstone come to a close. The next round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship will take place in two weeks at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps Circuit in Belgium. McLaren currently looks like the team to beat, but the fight for the title is intensifying, especially after today’s dramatic race. All eyes will be on whether Lando Norris can close the gap even further in the standings—now narrower than ever.
