A weekend to make a lifelong dream come true. Since he was a child, Lando Norris has always had one clear and burning ambition: to win his home race, the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. And this year, more than ever, the 2025 season could offer the best opportunity yet to turn that dream into reality. After the promising performance and the encouraging signs shown during the Austrian Grand Prix, the goal for the British driver is now clear: to confirm those positive sensations and aim for a triumphant victory at what he considers to be “his” Silverstone.
For every driver on the Formula 1 grid, their home Grand Prix is a unique and deeply emotional occasion — a race that all dream of conquering at least once in their careers. This emotional weight is especially true for Lando Norris, who arrives at the iconic Silverstone circuit just a week after securing a memorable victory in Austria. For the 25-year-old, that win felt like dominating in his own backyard.
The British racing driver has always had a special connection with the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria. Ever since his debut season in the FIA Formula One World Championship, when he delivered a brilliant qualifying performance on that very track, Norris has consistently shown he can make the difference there. Now, he is hoping to recapture that same level of form and confidence at Silverstone, as he sets his sights on a very clear objective: winning.
To help boost Lando Norris’s confidence during qualifying sessions, the McLaren Formula 1 team introduced a revised and upgraded rear suspension setup at the Canadian Grand Prix. This updated component was specifically developed to provide Norris with increased sensitivity and better feedback from the car, particularly during the single-lap runs. This area had been a weak point earlier in the season, occasionally leading to a lack of confidence and even to costly mistakes in qualifying.
Interestingly, this new suspension solution is not used by his teammate, Australian driver Oscar Piastri, who continues to run a different setup. Norris now hopes that the positive momentum and pace rediscovered in Austria can carry over into this crucial weekend at the British Grand Prix — although, as he admits, there are no guarantees that the same sensations will be repeated.
“If there’s one place where I can hope to rediscover my best form, it’s definitely here, yes,” said Lando Norris. “In Austria, I felt like I was heading a bit more in the right direction, but that doesn’t mean I’ll feel exactly the same here, you know. Sometimes things can change dramatically depending on the circuit, the track surface, tyre temperatures — anything, really.”
“I certainly felt more in tune with the car and more comfortable with my rhythm. My final lap in Q3 was one of the best I’ve ever done. So yes, I found a bit of that old spark, a bit of the old me. But I’m not the kind of person who says ‘I’m back,’” the British driver explained during the press conference.
“I think I still need to prove myself through consistency, first and foremost to myself, as always. That’s what really drives me. But everything I’ve felt recently definitely gives me extra motivation to try to replicate something similar this weekend. And when it’s your home Grand Prix, you always hope that gives you a bit of an edge.”
The fact that the British Grand Prix takes place on home soil adds an extra layer of meaning and emotional value, and Lando Norris hopes that this can also provide him with a motivational boost. Silverstone holds a particularly special place in the history of Formula 1: it was the venue of the very first Formula One World Championship race back in 1950 — albeit in a significantly different layout compared to today’s modern version. Yet despite the changes, its impact and legacy remain intact.
“Silverstone is a fantastic circuit,” said Norris, “but the main thing that makes it so special is the fans — they are simply the best. They give you this unbelievable energy and support. It’s a kind of emotion that you just don’t get in any other walk of life. That level of love and passion is truly unique. And for me, it’s even more special now because I think I’ve won here seven races, if I remember correctly, across different categories, and every year it feels even better.”
“My fanbase has been growing more and more over the years, and now having an entire grandstand dedicated to me is just incredible. To think there are so many people, so many fans, cheering for me… it’s a very special feeling for all of us.”
That is why winning the British Grand Prix at Silverstone would mean so much to Lando Norris — not just to reignite his championship hopes and send a message to Oscar Piastri after the recent win in Austria (where the Australian driver nonetheless showed impressive race pace), but also to finally fulfill the dream he has nurtured since childhood: winning right here, in front of his home crowd, at Silverstone. A win that, in his eyes, would be even more meaningful than his recent triumph in Monte Carlo.
“I think it’s hard to put anything above Monaco,” he admitted. “But I’ve said it before, even before winning in Monaco — if I could win just one race, if I could trade all the others for a single victory, it would be to win at Silverstone. So that’s the plan.”
“Of course, there’s still a lot of work to be done, a lot of things to get right first. Monaco is obviously special. But they are two very different races, special in different ways. Monaco carries incredible history and prestige because of all the legendary names that have won there. Silverstone, though, is my home race — with the British fans, with all the Lando supporters, with everyone who comes here for us.”
“Winning at Silverstone would probably give me the biggest smile of all — even more than Monaco. It’s the victory I’ve dreamed about ever since I was a kid, back when I first started watching Formula 1. It’s the one I’ve always wanted more than any other.”
