Nico Hülkenberg has firmly dismissed speculation surrounding his future at Audi, insisting he has no concerns about his position despite growing rumours linking Carlos Sainz with the German manufacturer’s Formula 1 project. Speaking ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, the experienced German made it clear that the team remains fully satisfied with its current driver line-up before ending the discussion with a light-hearted joke aimed at the Spaniard.
Hülkenberg dismisses Audi rumours
After a disappointing retirement at Silverstone, Nico Hülkenberg heads to Spa-Francorchamps determined to bounce back and help Audi continue its recent progress. The German hopes the R26 will once again prove competitive enough to fight for points on one of Formula 1’s most demanding circuits.
Before turning his attention to the Belgian Grand Prix, however, Hülkenberg addressed the latest rumours circulating in the paddock, which have suggested that Carlos Sainz could be in contention for an Audi race seat next season.
The German was quick to downplay the speculation, making it clear that he has complete confidence in his position within the team.
“I don’t have any question marks over my future. We’re only at the beginning of this project—this is our first season as a team. I know the team is very happy with both me and Gabi,” Hülkenberg said, referring to teammate Gabriel Bortoleto.

“I’ve read the stories about Carlos,” he joked. “The reserve driver’s seat is available if he wants it, although I don’t know whether he’d be interested.”
The comment was delivered with a smile, but it also reflected the confidence Hülkenberg has in Audi’s current driver pairing. For now, a move to Audi appears increasingly unlikely for Carlos Sainz, although the Formula 1 driver market remains fluid.
