Aston Martin is preparing for the 2026 Formula 1 season with ambitious goals and has begun searching the technical market for key personalities to strengthen its team. After a disappointing 2025 campaign, the Silverstone-based outfit is gearing up for a major technical revolution.
This shift was already anticipated following the surprise appointment of Adrian Newey as the new team principal. A move which, as revealed by Racing News 365, was considered “significant”, especially given that months earlier Lawrence Stroll’s team had been in contact with Andreas Seidl.
The main objective for 2026 is to significantly strengthen the technical department, and expectations are high thanks to the involvement of Honda. According to RN365, the possible recruitment of Andreas Seidl remains a concrete option, even though the role of CEO would differ from the position held by Zak Brown at McLaren.
Another high-profile name linked to Aston Martin is Mattia Binotto, whom Lawrence Stroll is reported to have approached. The Italian engineer and former Ferrari team principal, however, has made it clear that he remains fully committed to the Audi project. In particular, Mattia Binotto is heavily involved in the development of Audi’s power unit for the new regulations.
Last but certainly not least is the name of Gianpiero Lambiase. The former race engineer of Max Verstappen is also said to be on Lawrence Stroll’s radar, although Aston Martin is not the only team showing interest, with Williams also monitoring the situation. While there are currently no formal negotiations and the reports refer mainly to unconfirmed approaches, it is clear that Aston Martin is aiming to attract as many high-profile technical figures as possible.
Will Aston Martin say goodbye to Cowell and Krack?
Questions also remain over the future roles of two key internal figures at Aston Martin. Andy Cowell, who was removed from the position of team principal, is now serving as head of strategy. According to RN365, it is still unclear whether this is a temporary assignment or a long-term role within the organization.
The future of Mike Krack is also uncertain. The Luxembourg engineer continues to work with the team, but in recent weeks there have been rumours suggesting that he is no longer fully satisfied with his current position.
If both Cowell and Krack were to leave Aston Martin, it would represent a serious technical loss for the team. Both figures bring extensive experience in key technical areas that would be difficult to replace. At the moment, Andreas Seidl is still seen as the ideal candidate, as he fits the needs of the Silverstone-based squad. His background includes strong technical, managerial and sporting experience, all qualities that Aston Martin believes are essential to successfully build its future under the 2026 Formula 1 regulations.
