F1 | Alpine enters a new era as Mercedes 2026 engine fires up for the first time – video. Alpine has completed the first fire-up of its Mercedes 2026 power unit.

Alpine 2025 F1 car

Alpine is ready to begin a brand-new adventure in Formula 1. Just moments ago, the French team shared the first official fire-up of its Mercedes 2026 power unit on social media, offering fans an early glimpse into the future of the Enstone-based outfit. The video shows the first ignition of the engine that will power Alpine’s new-generation car, marking a key milestone ahead of the upcoming season.

In less than a month, all Formula 1 teams will take to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the first official pre-season testing sessions. In the weeks leading up to that debut, teams are finalizing the last technical details and, above all, conducting extensive bench tests of their new power units. Alpine’s release of the Mercedes engine fire-up represents a crucial step in that preparation process.

The A526 will represent a historic turning point for the French squad, both symbolically and from a technical and strategic standpoint. After years of competing with Renault power, the manufacturer officially exits Formula 1, and the Enstone team begins a new partnership with Mercedes, which will now supply its power units. This move is widely seen as a major step forward, especially when considering the reliability and performance issues Alpine has faced in recent seasons, as well as the clear straight-line speed advantage traditionally associated with the Brixworth-built engines.

The engine comes to life

The fire-up, which is the first ignition of the engine once it has been installed in the car, is one of the most delicate and significant phases in the development of a Formula 1 machine. It is not just about hearing the unmistakable sound of the power unit for the first time, but also about verifying the integration between the engine, the chassis, the electronic systems, the cooling architecture, and all auxiliary components.

This moment represents a critical reliability test and an essential check of the correct functioning of the entire technical package. Any anomalies detected during this phase are analyzed with extreme care, as interventions made at this stage are far more effective than corrections introduced once the car is already running on track.

With this milestone completed, the Enstone-based team prepares to face the 2026 Formula 1 season with renewed ambition. Alpine is fully aware that the new regulatory cycle could offer a genuine opportunity to climb back up the competitive order after a 2025 campaign that is widely regarded as one to forget. The successful fire-up of the Mercedes power unit is the first concrete sign that a new chapter has officially begun.

The successful fire-up of the Mercedes-powered Alpine marks a pivotal shift for the French team as they abandon their factory Renault engines in favor of a customer partnership they hope will propel them back into championship contention.
