F1 2026 superlicence fees revealed: Lando Norris and Max Verstappen top one million euros. Formula 1 drivers must pay an entry fee to compete each season.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget, but even the Formula 1 World Championship has an entry fee for drivers, just like any other “lower-tier” racing series. The only difference is that in the golden world of the Circus, the figures involved are far from your Thursday night karting league. According to FIA regulations, to register for the next season, drivers are charged a base fee plus an additional amount for each point earned in the previous year’s championship.

For 2026, the FIA has set the base fee for obtaining the superlicence required to compete in Formula 1 at €11,842, with an additional €2,392 charged for every point scored in the 2025 season. Even without being a math genius, a simple calculator is enough to work out how much each driver on the 2026 grid will need to pay the FIA to race.

Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, separated by just two points in favor of the Englishman at the end of last season, are the only two drivers exceeding €1 million. The newly crowned McLaren World Champion will write a cheque to the FIA for €1,023,658, while the four-time World Champion will pay €1,018,874. Just behind them in the standings is Oscar Piastri: the Australian, with 410 points, comes close to the million-euro mark and will pay €999,562.

Notably, the returns of Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez, as well as the debut of rookie Arvid Lindblad, stand out. For them, the entry fee will be only €11,842, as they did not score points in 2025. The same applies to Franco Colapinto: although he competed in 18 races last season, he did not score any World Championship points.
