Arvid Lindblad is set to make his Formula 1 debut in a year of major change. The 2026 season will see revolutionary cars and regulations, presenting the 18-year-old with a dual challenge as he steps into the top category.
The British driver has been behind the scenes with Racing Bulls for around a year and has been part of the Red Bull Junior Team since 2021, giving him the advantage of already knowing the environment he will enter next year. However, the category itself is entirely new to him, aside from a couple of free practice sessions he was able to attend in 2025. Lindblad will also be the only rookie in the next season, as all other teams have confirmed their current drivers while Cadillac has brought in experienced racers.
“Keeping an open mind” is key
“There are many things I need to work on to be ready,” Arvid Lindblad admitted in an interview with F1.com. “Moving into Formula 1 will bring many changes, not just compared to Formula 2, but even more so because of next year’s new regulations. There will be a lot to learn.”
“I need to work closely with the team at the factory, on simulation, and do everything I can to arrive at the tests prepared, which will be crucial. Next year even more, since the engine will play a bigger role,” he explained.
“I just need to focus on feeling comfortable, knowing what I need to do, and being able to do it smoothly. There will be a lot to think about while driving, so arriving prepared and confident will be essential.”
Arvid Lindblad has moved up the ranks very quickly, from karting to Formula 1 in just a few years. This means he doesn’t have the same experience as others, but the British driver said he adapts quickly to category changes.
“I’ve been warned [by Alan Permane and Peter Bayer] that things will be tough. I can’t be naive. I am fully aware that this will be a big challenge. It will be a really big step,” he admitted.
“In the coming months, before the private tests in Barcelona, I will have a lot to learn to arrive ready. Even during the tests and at the start of the season, there will still be much to absorb. From the team side, everything will be new, and we’ll have to learn and develop together.”
“It’s really just about keeping an open mind. There’s nothing I don’t already know; I just have to work hard and stay focused on myself,” he concluded.
Permane’s words
Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane is enthusiastic about the British rookie and stated: “He’s intelligent: you can tell when you talk to him. He will learn quickly, I’m sure of it. If a driver has extra capabilities, it’s always an advantage. Now he just needs to prove this in Formula 1, consistently. Looking at his career and how fast he’s grown, all the signs indicate he’s ready for the task.”
