Red Bull follows Ferrari: technical revolution for the RB22 in 2026
Red Bull is also working intensively on 2026, with emerging news on the team’s design choices that seem to align with Ferrari’s direction. The new technical regulations provide teams with unprecedented freedom, and curiosity about how each team will interpret them is growing steadily.
The 2026 season represents an opportunity for everyone to start from scratch, and we expect teams to adopt innovative solutions that will create a clear distinction from current designs.
In recent days, important information has emerged regarding Ferrari’s progress and their chosen suspension philosophy. The next Ferrari car, code-named 678, will see the return of push-rod suspension on both the front and rear axles.
According to the Italian website Autoracer, Red Bull appears to be taking the same path, adopting double push-rod suspension at both the front and rear. This approach is converging among several teams and currently appears to be the most effective solution.
Currently, Red Bull has used a pull-rod suspension at the front since the beginning of the ground effect era in 2022, while the rear already employs push-rod.
Why change the suspension layout?
The decision may stem from several factors. In current ground effect cars, the floor requires a large amount of clean airflow. A pull-rod suspension helps free space and avoids disturbing the airflow towards the Venturi tunnels. However, in 2026, the Venturi tunnels will disappear, removing the need to keep that area so open. Additionally, the front wing will change significantly, and the car body will receive airflow differently.
A push-rod suspension has springs and torsion bars positioned higher, making them more accessible for setup adjustments. It is also easier to design and, in a complex season like the upcoming one, having a solid and reliable base is crucial for teams.
The new cars will face different stresses compared to current models: completely redesigned aerodynamics and smaller tires. This will lead to different platform movements, prompting the team to favor push-rod as the more versatile and manageable solution.
A first glimpse of the next season will come on January 15, 2026, when Red Bull will reveal the RB22 livery. To see the car in its final technical configuration, we will have to wait for winter testing, scheduled for the second half of January.
