Last night, on the eve of the Monaco weekend, the twenty Formula 1 drivers attended a private screening of the new film “F1”, starring Brad Pitt and produced by Lewis Hamilton.
All attendees are now bound by a non-disclosure agreement until the end of June, when the film will be released globally. However, Esteban Ocon inadvertently revealed a bit too much during an interview.
As reported by RacingNews365, the French Haas driver commented: “First of all, I told Lewis that the driving scenes are extremely engaging, and it’s fantastic. It’s something we’ve never seen before. There are spectacular races, like one at Daytona, with very intense duels.”
Esteban Ocon then added: “Of course, there are moments where some things don’t make much sense to us who live in the paddock and experience the races in person, but you can clearly sense Lewis’s touch—he tried to make everything as realistic as possible. I really liked that in the final race there wasn’t the usual predictable ending: something happened during the race, with a red flag being shown…”
Only later was it pointed out to him that the details he shared were not yet public knowledge, as only the drivers had seen the film.
Speaking about what he would have liked to see done differently, Esteban Ocon added: “The crashes. In some scenes it’s clear that Lewis Hamilton wanted to maintain a high level of realism, but in others it was necessary to make things a bit more Hollywood-style. The film also has to appeal to people who don’t follow Formula 1, but personally I would have preferred to see more racing and fewer crashes.”
In conclusion, he praised the project by saying: “Overall, it’s by far the best racing movie ever made. I think it will be a huge success.”
Finally, with a touch of irony, he ended the interview by saying: “I appear quite a lot in the film, but I’m glad I didn’t have too many crashes with Sonny Hayes.”
