“Lance Stroll is a very talented guy, he speaks less than Fernando but he is also sharper in the comments he gives to the team.” These were the words of Enrico Cardile, a leading engineer at Aston Martin, who, after discussing the internal transformation currently taking place within the team, also shared several reflections on the driver line-up.
Enrico Cardile’s comments offer an interesting insight into the working dynamics between Aston Martin’s two drivers, underlining how different communication styles can still deliver equally valuable technical input to engineers. While Fernando Alonso is well known for his detailed and constant feedback, Lance Stroll appears to contribute in a more concise but highly focused manner.
The comparison with a world champion
“The nice thing for us is that they are quite aligned,” Enrico Cardile added, referring to the Alonso–Stroll pairing. “That makes our life easier, because we receive feedback that is pointing in the same direction. They have a different sensitivity on certain aspects of driving, but these are just details.”
The impressions shared about Lance Stroll inevitably led to a comparison with Kimi Räikkönen, a former world champion famous for his clear, direct, and often minimalistic approach to communication. This was a parallel that the Italian engineer fully endorsed. “Yes, definitely, they are very similar in style,” Enrico Cardile revealed, openly supporting the comparison.
Aston Martin are now preparing for the presentation of their new car, scheduled to take place on 9 February, a key milestone as the team continues to reshape itself ahead of the next Formula 1 season. The car’s first on-track appearance will come even earlier, towards the end of the current month, when the team will carry out its initial pre-season running.
Those first tests will be held behind closed doors in Barcelona, offering Aston Martin an early opportunity to evaluate their progress before the official pre-season sessions begin. With high expectations surrounding both the car and the driver pairing of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, Enrico Cardile’s comments highlight a sense of internal cohesion as the team looks to take another step forward.
