Daniel Ricciardo may soon debut in another championship following his time with RB in Formula 1. After the Singapore weekend at the Marina Bay street circuit, the Visa CashApp RB team decided to give Liam Lawson the opportunity to finish the 2024 Formula One season, as Daniel Ricciardo’s underwhelming performances did not convince Red Bull’s leadership.
While the door to Formula 1 is not completely closed for him, Daniel Ricciardo mentioned in a recent interview that a second return seems highly unlikely. As a result, alternatives in other championships are already being considered, with the Australian and New Zealand-based Supercars championship being the top contender.
During the Bathurst 1000 presentation, Supercars’ executive director Shane Howard expressed his intent to try to convince the former Renault and McLaren driver to join the series. Howard mentioned that everyone would welcome Daniel Ricciardo with open arms and that seeing him in a Supercar would be fantastic, especially in a new street race in Perth, which is expected to debut in 2026. Howard added that Daniel Ricciardo is an incredible driver with a great personality, and people love him.
Supercars, a touring car championship founded in 1997 and backed by Ford and Chevrolet, has produced drivers like Scott McLaughlin, now one of Team Penske’s top drivers in IndyCar. Daniel Ricciardo’s manager, Blake Friend, previously worked for the Supercars series, a connection that could facilitate the Australian’s entry into the championship.
Howard emphasized that they would reach out to Daniel Ricciardo and his management at the right time, respecting his current commitments, but they would love to see him in one of their cars.
In a recent interview with Tourism Western Australia, Daniel Ricciardo said that while Bathurst is primarily a V8 event, he would be open to competing in the 12-hour race. He added that if a V8 team invited him to do some laps at Bathurst without pressure, he would definitely accept.
