F1 | Verstappen ‘reprimanded’ by Juncadella: the joke about the Spa 24 Hours
Max Verstappen was playfully “called out” by his teammate from the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Daniel Juncadella, for not taking part in next weekend’s Spa 24 Hours.
Another major 24-hour endurance race is scheduled for next week at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit, where the world’s best GT3 teams and drivers will battle for overall victory. Verstappen Racing, the Dutch driver’s GT3 team, will also be on the grid for the prestigious event.
The number 3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo will be shared by Daniel Juncadella, Jules Gounon and Chris Lulham. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen will be focused on his Formula 1 commitments with Red Bull Racing as he prepares to compete in the Austrian Grand Prix.
For the occasion, the four-time Formula 1 World Champion will once again use his special orange helmet design for Red Bull’s home race. The team is also expected to introduce updates for its star driver, as team principal Laurent Mekies confirmed during the Barcelona Grand Prix weekend.
Juncadella jokes about Verstappen on social media
Responding to a social media post in which Verstappen unveiled his orange Austrian Grand Prix helmet, his Spanish teammate left a humorous comment:
“Nice helmet, sure, but it’s pretty inconsiderate of you to skip the Spa 24 Hours just to go and race in an F1 car driving around in circles somewhere near Zeltweg.”
During the Miami Grand Prix weekend, Verstappen had been asked about the possibility of competing in the famous Belgian endurance race. Speaking to the media, he explained: “I’d like to do more, of course, but it depends a lot on the calendar as well. For example, if there had been a free weekend for the Spa 24 Hours, I probably would have done it this year already. So it’s really just a matter of scheduling. If the calendar allows it, I’d love to race more.”
Verstappen has repeatedly expressed his passion for endurance racing and GT competition, often taking part in simulator events and closely following the activities of his own racing team. However, Formula 1 commitments continue to take priority, particularly during a crucial stage of the championship season.
For now, the Dutchman will be chasing success at the Red Bull Ring, while his GT3 team competes for one of the most prestigious victories in endurance racing at Spa-Francorchamps.
