After Max’s jab during the post-race press conference in Brazil, Jos Verstappen also wanted to get a few things off his chest regarding the British media.
Following the countless criticisms (and penalties) received between Austin and Mexico City for behavior on the track deemed well beyond acceptable limits, Max Verstappen silenced his detractors in Brazil with an exceptional performance in every respect, effectively securing his fourth Formula 1 world title.
Starting from 17th position, the Dutchman made it clear to his rivals right from the beginning that nothing and no one would stand in his way on the rainy Sunday in Interlagos.
Instead of succumbing to disappointment after a heavy elimination in Q2, Max Verstappen managed to channel his frustration into competitive anger, overtaking his opponents one after another like bowling pins, and fully capitalizing on the red flag to achieve his eighth victory of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
After the race, Max Verstappen did not hold back in taking a dig at the British press, with which he has not exactly had a particularly friendly relationship lately: “I have a quick question! I don’t see the British press. Did they have to run to the airport? Or didn’t they know where the press conference was?”
Jos also on the offensive
Commenting on his son’s magnificent performance to the microphones of De Telegraaf, Jos Verstappen intensified his critique of the British media: “This is Max’s perfect response to a lot of whining, and certainly directed at the English.”
“Commentators, journalists, and former drivers will keep their mouths shut now. Max has proven to be the best. What about those who shout that he should change his driving style? His driving style is perfect! Even the first lap in the rain, where he gained six positions. He is always perfect in these conditions.” – he pointed out at the end of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix at the 4.309-kilometre Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Brazil – “He has shown who is the best,” he added to Sky Deutschland. “I believe he was very motivated after the negative comments from the British journalists and drivers. They think they can take away his good mood, but he will only improve because of this. I am very proud of what he has done. The whole world has seen who is the best.”
