Cadillac’s debut in F1 in 2026 raises the question of who will be the drivers for the new U.S. team, and one of the most considered names is that of Colton Herta, 2024 IndyCar vice-champion.
Colton Herta, born in 2000, who made his IndyCar debut in 2018 and finished second in 2024, commented for the first time, to Motorsportweek.com, on the rumors linking him to F1 with Cadillac with some irony and fatigue: “It feels like I’ve been in this discussion for half a decade.” – he admitted.
“I’m a little tired of this situation. I just want to drive and focus on IndyCar this year and on winning the championship, and if something comes from this, I’ll think about it then. It’s not an obvious thing: all my friends and family are here in the USA, so it’s an important decision to make if I ever reach the point of having to make a decision.” – he pointed out.
The American driver, after missed opportunities with Sauber and AlphaTauri (due to a lack of points on his FIA Superlicense), is still interested in racing in F1 with Cadillac? “If it happens, great: I’ll have to make a decision if I’m still wanted. If it doesn’t happen, then, poor me, I’ll be forced to race in IndyCar… It’ll be fine either way.”
In his IndyCar career, which started in 2018, Colton Herta has participated in 99 races, winning 8 and finishing on the podium 17 times. His best seasons were 2020 and 2024: he finished third in the first, and last year he became the vice-champion of the championship, behind Álex Palou.
