Christian Horner has issued a warning to Red Bull about a mistake they cannot afford to make in the 2025 Formula 1 campaign. After a dominant 2023 season by Max Verstappen, the 2024 season has turned out to be more balanced than expected. The gradual resurgence of McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes has given fans a championship whose outcome, with six races remaining, is far from certain. For this reason, Christian Horner wanted to caution Red Bull about an error to avoid heading into 2025.
Next year, the last before the new technical cycle, the regulations will remain almost identical, allowing teams to get even closer. There is also the Lewis Hamilton factor to consider. The Briton will begin his adventure with Ferrari, aiming for the eighth title that slipped through his fingers three years ago in Abu Dhabi.
Since Fred Vasseur’s arrival, Scuderia Ferrari has been able to identify and solve most of the issues it faced in the past. The SF-24 has proven to be an excellent car, consistently capable of fighting for podiums, and it certainly represents a solid foundation to build upon for 2025.
“We need answers”
In an interview with Autosport about Red Bull’s situation, Christian Horner revealed the concerns leading into 2025. “We desperately need answers,” said the Team Principal. “If we look at our rivals, Ferrari will be very strong with Lewis and Charles, and McLaren has a really fast line-up.” – he pointed out – “We must ensure that there isn’t too big a gap between our two drivers; we can’t afford that,” Christian Horner added. Over the past year, after an encouraging start, Sergio Perez has been unable to keep up with Max Verstappen.
The gap in the standings between the two is quite evident, and Sergio Perez’s recent results do not justify his continued presence in 2025. Despite this, Horner has repeatedly expressed complete confidence in Sergio Perez, who recently signed a two-year contract extension.
Certainly, Red Bull’s top management will use the remaining six races to assess the progress of Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson before making a decision for the upcoming year. This also explains the decision to part ways with Daniel Ricciardo mid-season, as Horner himself confirmed a few weeks ago.
