Christian Horner ready to return to F1: insights from a former colleague
Christian Horner is reportedly preparing to make his return as a Team Principal in Formula 1, and his former competitors are already weighing in. After a legal dispute that began in February 2024, Horner stepped down from his role as Team Principal of Red Bull only a few months ago, but speculation about his comeback is already circulating.
During his tenure, the English manager built an F1 powerhouse, establishing Red Bull as one of the most dominant teams in the sport for several years. However, after two highly successful cycles, his relationship with the Milton Keynes team ended on a sour note. Officially dismissed on 9 July, Horner began his “gardening leave,” though recent reports suggest this period could be shorter than initially expected. Negotiations reportedly included a compensation package estimated at around £80 million, and rumors indicate he could be back in a leadership role as early as the start of 2026.
Zak Brown on Christian Horner’s potential F1 comeback
Amidst the speculation, several F1 teams are said to have explored the possibility of bringing one of the sport’s most successful Team Principals back. Horner, 51, has reportedly been linked to teams such as Alpine, Haas, and especially Aston Martin, in an attempt to recreate a winning partnership well known in F1 history. However, no formal offers have been announced yet.
Commenting on Christian Horner’s possible return, his former colleague and rival Zak Brown told Bloomberg: “I think he’s had a stellar career in Formula 1; his achievements include numerous drivers’ and constructors’ championships.” Brown also reflected on their past encounters, saying: “I believe our sport is unique. Not only is the on-track competition extremely exciting, but there’s also a lot of competition off the track.”
A lasting legacy in Formula 1
Zak Brown acknowledged the significant impact Horner has had on Formula 1 during his twenty-year tenure with Red Bull. Whether the English manager will take the helm of another team next year remains uncertain, but Brown’s remarks highlight the respect Horner commands within the F1 paddock. Even after leaving Red Bull, he continues to be a major topic of conversation, and all eyes are now on which team will succeed in convincing him to return to the sport. The next move could shape the 2026 season and beyond.
