Lando Norris, disqualified at the Las Vegas GP alongside his teammate, stated that Max Verstappen’s resurgence and the points he has in the championship “don’t change anything” for him. His mindset will not shift because of a single weekend gone wrong.
The McLaren driver is now 24 points behind the four-time world champion, who won the race on the Las Vegas Strip. This means Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen are currently tied in the drivers’ standings. In recent races, Verstappen has returned to extraordinary form, and Lando Norris had responded with two consecutive wins, but the Las Vegas GP again reshuffled the hierarchy.
Max Verstappen has fully re-entered the 2025 championship fight, yet the British driver seems unfazed. He knows that the Las Vegas disqualification was an isolated incident and that in Qatar he can make it clear he has no intention of stepping back in the title battle. Doha and Abu Dhabi will be decisive for a fight that will likely only be settled in the season finale.
Lando Norris’ words
Despite being in the lead of the drivers’ standings, Lando Norris admits that altering his new “habits” now could make the difference between winning and losing a championship.
“What has worked so well for me in the last few weekends is staying flat. Staying out of trouble, staying out of the chaos behind me,” the Briton said after Las Vegas. “At the moment, it’s the safest bet in terms of emotional drive.”
“I don’t think it’s the right mindset to have. I came here this weekend to try to win. I’ll go to Qatar to try to win. I continue to act as if I’m not in the championship. I’m here just to try to win every weekend, and that’s the mindset I’ll continue to have.”
He added: “Of course, when you’re on the right track, you make different decisions depending on the risk levels and things like that. But I feel my judgment overall is quite good and accurate. So I’m happy.”
“Nothing changes because of the points I have,” Norris explained, referring to Verstappen’s progress in the championship.
If he sticks to his word, the final two weekends promise fireworks – because Lando Norris has no intention of lifting off the throttle just because there’s a world championship on the line.
