Carlos Sainz and Williams organized a roadshow on one of the streets that will host the Madrid circuit, which is set to debut on the F1 calendar in 2026.
Carlos Sainz was the star of a roadshow in his hometown, Madrid. The Williams driver took part in an event with his team as a preview of the new circuit, which will join the Formula 1 calendar starting in 2026.
Spain will thus have two home Grands Prix: the historic one in Barcelona and the new race in Madrid, which is confirmed to remain on the calendar at least until 2035. In front of a crowd of about 80,000 people, Carlos Sainz drove the 2023 FW45 over a 1.1 km stretch on one of the streets where the city circuit will be built. Construction has already been underway for several months.
What the Madrid circuit will be like
The Spaniard, ambassador of the MadRing project, revealed that his role goes beyond simply representing the initiative—he’s also actively involved. “I’m trying to have a bit more influence in shaping some of the corners and turns,” he said during the press conference ahead of the roadshow.
“We want to make sure this track has character and allows for overtaking, because in the end, that’s what makes an F1 race exciting.” The MadRing layout is planned to have 22 corners over a total length of 5.4 km.
When asked how the news of the new circuit has been received by other drivers, Carlos Sainz explained: “There’s a lot of curiosity about everything. Especially in recent months, after the track’s construction was confirmed. And the drivers are eager. Some have already heard that Madrid is fun even away from the F1 track, and they’re already asking me about it.”
Driver #55 also sent a message to his fans, encouraging them to return next year: “You’re the best. You’ve made me feel alive again.” He then made a promise: “Come back next year to support me, because with this kind of affection, I believe a podium is within reach.”
