Williams impresses in Imola practice, but C6 tyre presents challenge. Williams finishes in the top 10 at Imola Friday practice.

Carlos Sainz, Williams 2025 F1

A good Friday for the Grove team
Williams was the fourth-fastest team on track in Miami, but repeating that performance in Imola won’t be easy. Friday saw a strong showing from Alpine with Pierre Gasly, and Ferrari also appears noticeably sharper than in Florida. Still, both Albon and Sainz ended Friday inside the top 10. Their comments follow.

Alexander Albon: “The track is fantastic to drive, it’s always fun to come to Imola. That said, we’re struggling a bit with the softest tyre compound. The C6 is new this year, and it takes some time to learn. Traffic was also really tricky to manage, but so far the car has behaved well.”

Carlos Sainz: “Good Friday here in Imola. In FP1 with the Soft tyres we were quick, but in FP2 we need to understand why we didn’t maximise the tyre. On the Mediums, though, the balance was very good, so we have to work on understanding the C6 and prepare for qualifying. Track position is important here at Imola, so we need to find a bit of rhythm if we want to be in the mix.”
