Carlos Sainz has finally spoken openly about the possibility of his father running for FIA President, reassuring that there will be no conflict of interest.
The news of Carlos Sainz Sr’s potential candidacy raised doubts among fans and insiders, but the Williams driver quickly shut down any controversy with clear and direct statements.
“We are honest people”: Sainz’s firm response
The name of Carlos Sainz Sr, a rally legend and respected motorsport figure, is the first to emerge as a potential challenger to Mohammed Ben Sulayem in the upcoming FIA presidential elections.
Despite widespread respect for the 63-year-old Spaniard, the possible connection with his son — currently a full-time F1 driver and GPDA council member — immediately raised concerns about a potential conflict of interest.
But Carlos Sainz Jr strongly rejected these insinuations: “I tried to imagine a scenario where a conflict of interest could arise, but I can’t. My father would be extremely careful, and so would I. We would never compromise our careers or integrity in motorsport.” – the former Ferrari driver pointed out.
As further assurance, Carlos Sainz said that if his father were elected, their professional relationship would end: “He would no longer be my manager. Everyone knows us: we are honest. We would never put our name at risk.”
A clear message aimed at reassuring both fans and motorsport authorities: the Sainz family is ready to do things the right way, even if the stakes are very high.
