During Thursday’s media day at the Austrian GP, Lando Norris revisited the incident that occurred in the final laps of the Canadian Grand Prix with his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri.
Norris currently sits second in the Drivers’ Championship, 22 points behind Oscar Piastri, who leads the standings. The British driver addressed the crash in Montreal, where he came off worse and was forced to retire from the race. After the race, Lando Norris had immediately taken responsibility for the misjudgment, a point he reiterated in Austria: “I made it clear from the start that it was a mistake on my part and I took the blame. Of course, the conversations afterwards weren’t pleasant, but they were necessary. And obviously, it concerns all of us — not just me, but how we operate as a team. We all know the number one rule, and that won’t change. So yes, some very constructive discussions took place.”

McLaren showed considerable understanding, something Norris acknowledged: “It was with my teammate, and that was probably the most painful part for me, because it’s the last thing I ever wanted to happen.” He added: “I felt really bad for the team and for everyone who works at McLaren. So it was a tough couple of days. But I think one thing I’ve improved on is dealing with these moments, speaking with Andrea [Stella], my team, Zak, and trying to move forward as quickly as possible. That’s been very important.”
Now, Lando Norris is determined to put the Canadian GP behind him and focus fully on Sunday’s race in Austria. Can he bounce back and deliver a strong result?
