McLaren have won their lawsuit against Alex Palou, with damages exceeding 12 million dollars awarded to the Woking-based team. During the hearing held in England, the British squad prevailed at the end of the legal proceedings concerning the early termination of the contract by the IndyCar champion, from whom interest and reimbursement of legal costs will now also be sought.
On Friday, January 23, a British judge ruled that McLaren Racing is entitled to compensation of more than 12 million dollars to cover the commercial losses and operational disruption suffered as a result of the IndyCar driver Alex Palou breaching his contract with the team.
In addition to this amount, the Woking-based outfit will seek interest and reimbursement of legal expenses at a further hearing. As stated in the ruling, Palou received the support of Chip Ganassi Racing in his attempt to contest McLaren Racing’s claims.
“This is an absolutely fair result for us. As stated in the judgment, we clearly demonstrated that we fulfilled every single contractual obligation towards Alex and fully honored everything that had been agreed,” said McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown.
“We thank the court for recognizing the significant commercial impact and the damage suffered by our company as a result of Alex’s breach of contract with the team.”
