Cadillac has announced a new multi-year global partnership with 3M, which will become the team’s Official Material Science Partner. The agreement is designed to push the boundaries of innovation in Formula 1, one of the world’s most demanding engineering environments, with the shared goal of improving performance both on and off the track.
As part of the collaboration, 3M’s scientists and engineers will work closely with Cadillac’s Formula 1 team to support car development, enhance on-track performance and optimize operational efficiency across the organization.
The partnership brings together two leading American companies that are recognized for their expertise in design, engineering and advanced manufacturing. The initial focus will be on lightweight materials, bonding technologies, surface preparation, manufacturing process optimization, laboratory testing and direct trackside technical support. In Formula 1, where every fraction of a second matters and every component operates under extreme conditions, cutting-edge technology can make a crucial difference.
What the key figures had to say
William Brown, Chairman and CEO of 3M, commented: “At 3M, we apply science and manufacturing expertise to solve complex challenges. This partnership demonstrates how our technologies can deliver tangible results in one of the most demanding environments in the world, improving speed, efficiency and overall performance.”
Tyler Epp, Cadillac’s Global Head of Commercial Strategy, added: “We’re proud to welcome 3M to Formula 1. We share the belief that championships are won through the smallest details. Their materials and research and development capabilities will help us compete where the margins matter most.”
A team representative also said: “This alliance is more than technical support. It is a true accelerator for Cadillac’s entire Formula 1 project, combining innovation in material science with the engineering excellence already present across our operations.”
Mutual benefits and future prospects
3M brings more than a century of automotive experience to the partnership, with technologies that are already used in road vehicles around the world. Formula 1 provides the company with a unique high-speed testing environment where new solutions can be validated, materials can be pushed to their limits and development cycles can be accelerated.
Technologies that prove successful on the racetrack could then be transferred more quickly to global automotive manufacturers, helping advance the next generation of road cars.
For Cadillac, the agreement provides access to 3M’s extensive research and development expertise, opening new opportunities in chassis development, advanced materials research and other technical applications aimed at delivering sustainable long-term performance.
At the same time, 3M will benefit from Formula 1’s global audience by increasing brand visibility through its presence on the car and across the team’s commercial activities.
This agreement goes well beyond a traditional supplier relationship and represents a deep strategic collaboration. Both organizations share a commitment to engineering excellence, innovation and long-term ambition, with the goal of transforming lessons learned on the Formula 1 circuit into technological advances that can benefit not only motorsport, but the future of the entire mobility industry.
