Max Verstappen is keeping an eye on Aston Martin: the arrival of Adrian Newey could mark a turning point in F1 for the British team. The four-time world champion, whose contract with Red Bull has been the subject of rumors and denials in the paddock for nearly a year, is showing strong interest in the project led by the former Milton Keynes engineer. But while the foundations are there and championship hopes are high, the Dutchman might still choose to stay where he is.
Just a few weeks ago, some insiders were ready to swear by it: Max Verstappen was about to sign a contract with Aston Martin, effective from 2026. The technical proposal from the Silverstone-based team is enticing, but also extremely lucrative—rumors suggest that Lawrence Stroll is prepared to offer record-breaking sums.
However, nothing official has materialized yet. In fact, there have been plenty of denials regarding paddock whispers. More recently, George Russell has been linked to the team owned by the Canadian magnate, reviving speculation about Max Verstappen possibly joining Mercedes. Meanwhile, at the brand-new AMR Technology campus, Adrian Newey is already working on next season’s car.
Verstappen: “Newey will be important for Aston Martin”
Speaking to Motorsport Week, Max Verstappen commented on Adrian Newey’s return to trackside duties: “It reminded me of when he was with us, seeing him there in the garage. But honestly, there’s no point in thinking about it anymore—he’s not with us now.”
“We still have a lot of respect for him—or at least I do. He’s a good person and we achieved countless successes together. Seeing him in green now is different, of course, but I’m happy for him. I hope he’s happy too—that’s the most important thing. I’m sure he’ll contribute to their success. I’m curious to see what they’ll be able to do next year with his full involvement.”
