Aston Martin continues to face a challenging start to the 2026 Formula 1 season. Fernando Alonso is hoping the team can finally tackle a race weekend without limitations, free from the reliability problems that have plagued the first two rounds.
The AMR26 revealed its vulnerabilities early on, particularly due to the Honda power unit. Vibrations made it difficult to complete sessions even during pre-season testing, and both Alonso and teammate Lance Stroll failed to bring the car to the finish flag in Australia and China.
Alonso and Stroll still limited by AMR26 vibrations
“They need time, we can’t make precise predictions,” Fernando Alonso told the media. “There are still too many unknowns emerging day by day, so we are not yet fully on top of the problems. But we are pushing, and we have a team of talented professionals. I hope that within a couple of races, we can finally have a normal weekend, at least in terms of completed laps and sessions.”
The Spanish driver highlighted that the car also needs chassis developments, but so far, the few hours on track have made that almost impossible. “To be competitive, it will take even more time,” Fernando Alonso added.
“Once the reliability is resolved, there will still be gaps to recover in terms of power. These are two steps to tackle, and we hope the first step arrives soon.”
The road ahead for the Silverstone-based squad remains uphill as they transition into their new era with Honda. While the raw potential of the AMR26 is yet to be fully unleashed, the primary goal for Suzuka is simply to keep the car on track and functional. Based on the content of Fernando Alonso’s recent statements, the focus in Japan will be on stability and data collection rather than chasing a trophy just yet.
