Carlos Sainz sees growing momentum as Williams adds more points in Canada
Two weeks after the Miami Grand Prix — the first race of the season in which Williams managed to score points with both cars — the Grove-based team returned to the top 10 in Canada, although this time only Carlos Sainz delivered the result.
After finishing ninth in both Shanghai and Miami, the former Ferrari driver once again crossed the line in ninth place in Montreal, continuing a pattern of consistent points-scoring performances for the British team.
More points for Williams
For Williams, the result brings the team to a total of seven points in the constructors’ standings after five races, but Carlos Sainz believes the bigger story is the steady progress being made as the team continues to push forward.
“More points for the team, so I’m happy with the result. Ultimately, we still need more pace if we want to fight regularly inside the top eight, but we’re building good momentum race after race.”
A tougher weekend for Alex Albon
It was a far more difficult weekend for teammate Alex Albon, whose problems had already started back in FP1. The British-Thai driver, who has scored just one point this season in Miami, was eventually forced to retire after contact with Oscar Piastri.
Despite the incident, Alex Albon chose not to place blame on the Australian for the move into Turn 10.
“It wasn’t a lucky weekend for me. More bad luck, but no hard feelings toward Oscar. I think he simply got the overtake wrong. Sometimes these things happen — that’s the nature of racing.”
