Aston Martin boosts AMR26 project with return of veteran engineer Marco Fainello. Aston Martin continues to strengthen its technical team.

Aston Martin AMR25, 2025 F1

Aston Martin continues to bolster its technical department with top-tier talent. Following the arrivals of Andy Cowell, Adrian Newey, and Enrico Cardile, the British team is set to welcome Marco Fainello, a Veronese engineer returning to Formula 1 after a 13-year absence. His addition represents a further step in the ambitious AMR26 project and the seasons to come, with the declared goal of bringing Fernando Alonso back to the top of the championship.

Aston Martin seeks the very best talent

The team is not satisfied with simply having built one of the strongest technical teams in recent decades. According to Motorsport.com, Fainello’s recruitment came through a personal recommendation from Enrico Cardile, with whom he shared years of work at Ferrari. Fainello will serve as a principal consultant, operating primarily from the team’s campus, away from his historic residence on Lake Garda.

Who is Marco Fainello?

Marco Fainello, 61, left Ferrari in 2016 after a long career that began in 1995 as a track engineer for Jean Alesi and Michael Schumacher. In 1997, he became head of vehicle dynamics, contributing to the Scuderia’s successes during Ferrari’s golden era. From 2004, he oversaw the development of the “spider,” Ferrari’s first advanced simulator—a pioneering project that revolutionized technical preparation in the absence of on-track testing.

After Ferrari, Marco Fainello continued his career with Add-For and Danisi Engineering, further specializing in simulation. Now, returning to Formula 1, he joins a project aiming high, with Fernando Alonso determined to fight for the world championship. His expertise could prove decisive in an era where virtual preparation has become the core of on-track performance.

Marco Fainello’s return signals a new chapter

The return of Marco Fainello to Formula 1 marks a new chapter in his long career and confirms Aston Martin’s commitment to building a world-class technical team. In an era where simulation has become central to preparation, the Veronese engineer brings a wealth of knowledge that could be crucial in the title fight. With figures like Adrian Newey, Enrico Cardile, and now Marco Fainello, the AMR26 project gains vision, methodology, and ambition.
