Antonio Perez Garibay eyes presidency and says “I like being called crazy”. From F1 dreams to politics: Perez Sr sets sights on Mexico presidency.

Perez’s father likes being called “crazy”: aiming for the presidency of Mexico

Dreaming is like hunger—the more you taste success, the stronger the appetite becomes. Perhaps that is exactly what is happening within the Perez family. While Sergio “Checo” Perez managed to reach Formula 1 and drive for top teams like McLaren and Red Bull (and is currently competing in F1 with Cadillac), his father, Antonio Perez Garibay, is now dreaming even bigger: becoming the President of Mexico.

Perez Sr, who has long been active in politics, has already put forward several candidacies in recent years, although none have been successful so far. In 2015, he ran for mayor of Guadalajara but was not elected. In 2018, he pursued a seat in the Senate for the state of Jalisco, and despite changing political affiliation, he was once again unsuccessful at the polls.

Antonio Perez Garibay: “People think I’m crazy, I like it”

Antonio Perez Garibay has never allowed setbacks to discourage him. According to reports from ‘Marca.com’, he is now ready to try again—this time aiming even higher, with his sights set on the presidency of Mexico.

In a statement given to ‘El Siglo de Torreón’, he said: “Becoming President of Mexico is my dream, just like it was my dream to see my son driving a Formula 1 car. People think I’m crazy for aiming so high, but I’ll tell you one thing: I like being crazy. I like doing things that others wouldn’t do.”
